Troy, NY – Liberty League Commissioner Tracy King has announced that Vassar College's Jared Fiske (Livingston, NJ) has been named the Liberty League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Thursday's honor marks the first time a Vassar student-athlete has won the honor since 2020 and the first time Vassar has won the men's honor since 2018.
 
Fiske becomes Vassar's second Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, joining Matthew Knigge who earned the honor in 2018, and fourth honoree overall joining Monica Feeley (Field Hockey, 2019) and Sophie Nick (Women's Basketball, 2020). Fiske joins Ruth Hotaling (William Smith, Soccer) as the 2026 recipients of the honor with both nominated for the Division III Commissioners Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards.
 
"I am excited to announce that Ruth Hotaling and Jared Fiske have been selected as the Liberty League Scholar-Athletes of the Year," said King.
 
King continued, "Ruth and Jared represent the very best of the Liberty League and intercollegiate athletics – individuals who have achieved at elite levels academically and athletically while emerging as leaders on their campuses. Both have earned national recognition for athletic and academic success and are individuals of great character. It is only fitting that we recognize the dedication and commitment that they have demonstrated to their academic and athletic pursuits over the past four years."
 
Fiske closed out a standout career for Vassar in 2025 with Liberty League Player of the Year and First Team All-Liberty League accolades. Fiske went on to be named a Third Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches for a second straight time in 2025. Off the field, Fiske was named Academic All-District by the College Sports Communicators and a First Team Scholar All-American by the United Soccer Coaches.
 
Fiske, a Biology major and winner of Vassar College's Matthew Vassar Award for outstanding career achievement, finished the 2025 season with 33 points for the Brewers. Fiske paced Vassar with 13 goals, including three game winners, and was one of just one of four players to start all 20 games for the Brewers in 2025.
 
Fiske started the season in strong fashion, scoring in four of the team's first five games, and went on to post multiple goals in a game on two occasions. Among the Liberty League leaders, Fiske led the conference in total goals and goals per game, ranked second in points per game and third in assists per contest.
 
Fiske also boasts an impressive academic and research resume which includes induction into Sigma Xi Scientific Research Honor Society. Most recently, Fiske spent the summer of 2025 working a researcher at NYU Langone Health. In June of 2024, Fiske worked as an Intern at Overlook Medical Center in Livingston, NJ and from 2022-24 served as an Anesthesia Technician at Short Hills Surgery Center in Short Hills, NJ.
 
Fiske was a student leader while at Vassar, serving as a team captain for the Brewers in 2025 and also serving as a team SAAC representative for three seasons. Fiske was an ambassador for the Mark Schonwetter Holocaust Education Foundation while volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club of Poughkeepsie, a mentor for the Overlook Internship Program and a delegate for the American Legion Jersey Boys State.
 
Fiske graduated ranked tied for fourth all-time at Vassar in game winning goals (8), tied for fifth in points (68) and fifth in goals (28). Fiske helped the Brewers to the Liberty League Championship in 2024 and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2022 and 2024 with Vassar advancing to the Second Round on both occasions.
 
Vassar concluded the 2025 season with an 11-6-3 overall record and a 5-2-2 mark against league rivals, advancing to the Liberty League Championship Final for the second straight season.
 
About the Liberty League Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Established following the 2012-13 academic year, the recipients of the Liberty League Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards are selected in a vote by the Liberty League member institutions. The awards are presented to graduating student-athletes – one female and one male – who have demonstrated excellence in academics, athletics, and service/leadership throughout their time as student-athletes.
