POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 10, 2016) -- The Liberty League released its weekly Performer of the Week listing on Monday afternoon, and six Vassar College student-athletes earned a spot on their respective squads.
Sophomore field hockey forward
Megan Caveny was named as the Offensive Performer of the Week, while women's golf newcomer
Andrea Han earned Rookie of the Week honors. Sophomore field hockey player
Monica Feeley, men's soccer junior
Alex Gonzales, women's soccer sophomore
Rebecca Andrews and women's volleyball sophomore
Devan Gallagher all earned Honor Roll accolades.
Vassar's No. 1 player, the Han has continued to hit the ball extremely well. That was on display this weekend at the George Phinney Golf Classic, hosted by Middlebury College. The Brewers finished eighth overall, but Han was tied for 19th out of 86 total golfers after firing an 84 and 82 for a two-day 166.
Caveny scored both goals in a 2-1, come-from-behind win over No. 9 Rochester
Saturday afternoon. After UR scored on a stroke in the first half, Caveny netted her sixth goal of the year on a penalty stroke and then one-timed a cross from
Sam Plante out of mid-air in overtime for the game-winner. She has now scored four goals in three Liberty League conference games this year.
Feeley was amazing for Vassar
Saturday in a 2-1 overtime win over No. 9 Rochester. Feeley singlehandedly helped switch fields for the Brewers, weaving through defenders countless times to get Vassar out of pressure.
Gallagher averaged 3.67 kills per set while hitting .211 this week, as the Brewers split a pair of matches against Stevens and Wellesley. Gallagher started the week with 16 kills in a five-set loss to Stevens, hitting. 115 while posting three digs and four blocks as well.
Saturday in a four-set win over Wellesley, she led all hitters with 17 kills, connecting on a .326 hitting percentage as well.
Andrews starred on offense during Vassar's 2-0 week, assisting on the game-winner in the Brewers' 4-1 triumph over MSMC and scoring the equalizer in their 2-1 taking at RPI. Against MSMC, Andrews passed off to the right for freshman
Gabrielle Deitch to slot the ball into the left side of the net in the 52nd minute. And against RPI, Andrews leveled the game at one with a penalty kick in the 59th minute, as the Brewers went on to win their fifth consecutive game. Andrews leads the team with 13 points on six goals and an assist.
Gonzales was the difference-maker, notching a pair of goals, including the game-winner, to help Vassar to a 3-2 victory over RPI. For the game's first goal,
Hayden Van Brewer used a long throw-in to find
Tyler Gilmore, whose header-pass connected with Gonzales. That's when the junior tipped the ice-breaker into the left side with a header of his own. Later, in the 59th minute, Gonzales poked in the game-winner. Freshman
Mattie Mrlik set up the score, shooting off the post for an awaiting Gonzales on the left side. The midfielder dove in with another header for his third goal of the season.
