What To Look ForThe Brewers have struggled of late to put the ball in the cage, as their goal total has decreased in each of the last four games. Despite that fact, the defensive effort of the Brewers has been top notch and led Vassar to three victories before Wednesday evening's 1-0 loss to Kean University. VC does have a strong offensive contingent this year, so look for the Brewers offense to come back alive playing at home Saturday.
A Look At The Eagles (0-3)The season hasn't started the way head coach Andrea Zurlo and the Eagles would have wanted it to, but Brockport has played three strong teams their first three contests of the season. The Eagles come into the weekend as the only SUNYAC team without a goal, while allowing the conference's highest goal total through three games with 11. Last season, the Eagles finished 4-14 on the year, going 2-4 on the road. 2014 leading goal scorer Abby Eschen is gone after leading the Eagles with 13 points, as is Lindsay Farrell who graduated after playing all but 117 minutes in cage last year.
The Eagles have gotten some offensive pressure this season from a pair of players, as Christina Conkling leads Brockport with six shots and three shots on goal. Sophomore Margo Tremaine has fired five shots on cage as well, and Nicole Fazzolari has posted three attempts on goal as well. Defenders Ryenn Sanger and Autumn Swavely have played all 210 minutes for the Eagles this year on defense, as Sanger has the team's lone defensive save. In net, Paula Amo and Sarah Beam have shared duties, combining to make 25 saves.
Against Brockport All-TimeVassar holds the all-time edge over Brockport coming into the weekend, posting a 1-0-1 record in the series. Brockport and Vassar tied back in 1988 1-1 in the first meeting between the two schools on the field hockey field, and VC earned a 1-0 win last year in a neutral site game player at SUNY Geneseo.
Moving On UpAccording to the Average Computer Rating on FieldHockeyCorner.com, the Brewers have moved up to No. 24. Last week, the Brewers sat at No. 39 in the computer rankings.
Differential TreatmentThe Brewers come into the weekend with the Liberty League's second-best goal differential. Currently, Vassar is plus-nine in that category, behind the plus-10 of the University of Rochester and tied with William Smith College.
Thumb On The PaigeFreshman
Paige Amico (Carlsbad, CA/La Costa Canyon) is tied for second in the Liberty League in goals against average with a 0.50 mark, while chalking up the conference's third-best save percentage at .867.
Helping HandJunior defender
Sophie Arnold (Merion, PA/Lower Marion) has been rock solid for Vassar over the last three years, and earned her fifth defensive save of her career Wednesday at Kean. Her five stops ranks eighth all-time at Vassar, tied with Elissa Lim '11 and
Enya Cunningham '15.
Super ShotVassar has owned the shot category this season, outshooting opponents 72-27 over the opening four-game stretch. Even more impressive, the Brewers have allowed just an average of three shots in the second half of contests.
Second Half ShutoutThus far this year, the Brewers have outscored opposition in the second half, 7-0.
Depth ChargeAll of the 2014 season, Vassar College had 10 players accumulate a point. So far, the Brewers have equaled that mark through four games.
Up NextThe Brewers finish their modest two-game home stand on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m., entertaining Western Connecticut State University (2-1) for non-conference action.
