Parson Sets Goals Record in Swarthmore Season Finale

Box Score

SWARTHMORE, PA (April 29, 2015) – Swarthmore's Andrew Preiser notched a team-best four points on three goals and an assist, as the Garnet held off Vassar 12-11 Wednesday evening in the 2015 season finale for both teams. Despite a game-high five points on four goals and an assist from sophomore Liam Moriarty (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) the Brewers came up just short, finishing the season 6-10 overall. Swarthmore ends its 2015 campaign 7-8.

Junior Noah Parson (Cary, NC/Panther Creek) now stands alone atop the Vassar men's lacrosse single season scoring list, finishing the year with a program-record 35 goals after scoring twice tonight. Parson's 46 points is also a career-best, and ranks second all-time at Vassar in single season points.

The Garnet struck first in the game at Clothier Fields, as Will Black and Matt Johnson posted scores in the opening five minutes. Sophomore Brandon DeStasio (West Hempstead, NY/Chaminade) got Vassar on the board shortly after, cutting the Swarthmore lead to 2-1 at the 10:22 mark.

Johnson would push the lead back to two with 7:28 remaining in the quarter scoring his second of the game, before VC when on its longest run of the game scoring the next three. Sean Brazier got things started with a goal at the 6:15 mark, before Moriarty tied the game at three with his first of the game less than a minute later.

Vassar would gain the lead on a Scott Brekne goal shortly after, putting the Brewers ahead 4-3 with 4:02 to go in the quarter. The teams would trade goals in the final minutes, as VC held a 5-4 advantage heading into the second.

Swarthmore struck back in the second period, posting three consecutive goals to go ahead 7-5 with 9:20 on the clock. The Brewers would manage only one goal before half, as Swarthmore added one more with 52 seconds before the break from Joseph Hagedorn.

Vassar was able to outscore the Garnet in the second half, but the hosts did just enough posting four goals to earn the one-goal victory. The Brewers were able to tie things up one last time, after Parson's second goal of the game made it 10-10 with 5:34 left in the fourth quarter.

Swarthmore came through in the game's final moments, as Preiser and Justin Cosentino notched back-to-back goals to put the Garnet up 12-10 with 1:03 on the clock. Moriarty put one last ball in the net for Vassar with 13 seconds left, but it was not enough as Swarthmore won the game's last faceoff and ran out the clock.

The Brewers finish with six wins for the second consecutive year, and will return 87% of the team's current roster next season.
