Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 18, 2015) – No. 11 Union College opened the game on a 9-0 run, and never looked back as the Dutchmen secured a 12-5 victory over Vassar Saturday afternoon. Senior Charlie Ross led the way for Union scoring a game-high three goals while adding an assist. Union improves to 11-3 overall and 4-2 in the Liberty League, while Vassar now stands at 6-8 (1-5 Liberty).

Union didn't waste time getting its offense rolling, rattling off seven goals in the opening quarter at Gordon Field. The onslaught continued into the second quarter, as the Dutchmen got a pair of goals from Ross and sophomore Nicky Wright to carry a 9-0 lead into halftime. Vassar was held to just nine shots in the first half, while the Dutchmen had a 9-2 advantage in faceoffs.

The Brewers showed some life in the second half, going on a 3-0 run to start the third quarter and ultimately outscored the Dutchmen 5-3 in the final two periods. Senior Sean Brazier (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) got Vassar on the board at the 11:37 mark scoring off a dish from fellow senior Scott Brekne (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville). Junior Noah Parson (Cary, NC/Panther Creek) and Brazier tallied two more goals over the next five minutes, before Ross halted the run with 4:14 to play scoring his third of the game.

Brekne and Parson would add two more goals for VC in the final quarter of play, but Union countered with two of its own as the Dutchmen hung on for the seven-goal victory.

Freshman goalie Erik Mikelinch (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills HS West) made a game-high 10 saves, while Union's Stefan Basile made six to earn the win.

Vassar will wrap up its Liberty League regular season next Saturday, April 25 on the road vs. Clarkson University.

Notes:

Junior Noah Parson moved into third all-time in career goals after scoring twice against Union, now with 81 career scores at Vassar.

Parson matched his career-high in goals scored against Union, notching his 31st of the season to tie his single season best set back in 2013. Parson now stands two goals away from James Wilson's ('99) season record of 33 goals.
