Isabelle Goldstein (Belmont, MA/Belmont) as Vassar cruised to a 20-12 victory over Western Connecticut State Wednesday afternoon.
Sophomore
Julia Trudell (Newton, CT/Newtown) had a career-high four goals, while junior
Kim Mulvehill (Sudbury, MA/Chapel Hill - Chauncey Hill) posted her third hat trick of the season to help pace the Brewers. VC improves to 2-2 on the season with the win in the team's final game of the Spring Fling Lacrosse Tournament, while Western Connecticut drops to 3-2.
Vassar was highly efficient with its shot selection in the first 15 minutes, scoring six goals on seven shots to jump out to a 6-1 advantage over the Colonials. Trudell (2), sophomore

Dara Davis (Guilford, CT/Guilford) all converted early opportunities, as the Brewers limited West Conn on the offensive end.
The Colonials battled back, holding a 14-4 advantage on draw controls in the first half to gain an edge in possessions. Western Connecticut started to take advantage, getting a pair of goals from Lindsey Eanniello and Destinee Carey to cut the VC lead to 6-3. VC regained control, getting three of the next four goals from Trudell, Davis and freshman
Storm Sideleau (Hopkinton, NH/Kimball Union Academy) to go up 9-4 with 4:32 left in the half.
Western Connecticut finished strong, going on a 3-1 streak to end the first half and make it 10-7 Brewers heading into the break.
Vassar regained form on offense in the second half, aided by a 12-4 advantage in draw controls led by a team-high five from senior
Evie Toland (Nyack, NY/Nyack). VC opened the half with a trio of goals, as Mulvehill (2) and Goldstein combined for three in less than four minutes. Western Connecticut would come as close as five goals for the rest of the game, as Vassar put away chances and forced turnovers on the clear.
The Brewers ended the game on a 4-1 run in the final eight minutes, and maintained possession late to seal the eight-goal victory.
The Brewers will return home to Poughkeepsie on Friday, March 27 to face Union College at 4:00 pm.
Notes: VC's 20 goals tied the school record for goals in a game since at least 2002. Vassar has twice scored 20 goals against SUNY-New Paltz on April 2, 2003 and Farmingdale State on March 28, 2011.
