Brewers Fall at RPI

Box Score

TROY, NY (February 3, 2015) – Junior Chase Almond finished with a game-high 20 points, while three other Engineers finished in double figures as RPI dispatched Vassar 78-50 Tuesday evening. RPI shot 53.8% from the floor, the team's third-best mark on the season, while sinking 16-19 free throws to hold VC in check. The Brewers were held to 36.7% shooting from the field, while converting only 5-24 attempts from downtown. RPI improves to 6-13 (3-7 Liberty League) with the win, while Vassar drops to 6-13 (2-8 LL) on the season.

After starting the game 5-10 from the field to get ahead 10-8 over the Engineers, the Vassar offense grinded to a halt as the Brewers managed only six points the remainder of the half. VC could not find its stroke from beyond the arc, as the team finished just 10.0% on 1-10 shooting in the first. RPI managed more success, hitting 4-13 deep balls while shooting 42.9% from the field to take a 34-16 lead into the locker room. The Engineers were opportunistic on the glass, out-rebounding the Brewers 25-12 in the half to rack up 10 second chance points.

RPI opened up on its lead in the second frame of play, as the hosts continued to execute plays on the break and make open looks. The Engineers never trailed in the half, countering any short runs from the Brewers with points on the other end to retake momentum. RPI remained in control down the stretch, finishing with 44 points on 66.7% shooting in the second to seal the double-digit victory.

Junior Erikson Wasyl (Durham, CT/Coginchaug) finished with a team-high 13 points for the Brewers, while senior Alex Snyder (Rutland, VT/Rutland) and freshman Jesse Browne (Barrington, RI/Deerfield Academy) both tallied 10.

The Brewers will be back on the road this weekend for back-to-back bouts with Clarkson University and St. Lawrence University February 6-7.
