Drakeley Tops 1,000 Points As Vassar Knocks Off Bard, 58-42

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (February 18, 2015) - Junior guard Caitlin Drakeley (Woodbury, CT/Nonnewaug) became the 11th player in program history to notch 1,000 points, as the Vassar College women's basketball team knocked off Bard College 58-42 in Liberty League play from Stevenson Athletic Center.

Drakeley needed 17 points going into the contest, and finished the game with 18 as she netted her 1,000th point on a free throw with 2:49 to play in regulation. The junior guard has scored 426 points this season, and is averaging 17.8 points per game in 2014-15. Drakeley is the first player to reach 1,000 since Hannah Senftleber eclipsed the mark last year on January 18, 2014.

The Connecticut native scored 10 of her 18 points in the first half, and needed just eight field goals on the night to reach the plateau. Drakeley connected on 7-of-8 from the free throw line as well, and also tied her career-high for assists with seven Wednesday. Drakeley has really upped her pace during her career, scoring 7.7 (200 total) points per game as a freshman, 12.9 (375 total) last season and nearly 18 a game this year.

The Brewers (11-13, 6-9 Liberty League) trailed early on, as the Raptors netted the first two buckets of the game on a pair of Tytravia Riley layups. The Brewers battled back, and posted a 12-0 run over 4:12 of the first half to take a 20-10 lead with 9:32 to go in the period. Over the spurt, Vassar was 6-of-6 from the field, while holding Bard to 0-5 shooting.

Bard (4-19, 0-15 Liberty League) scored seven straight to trim the VC advantage to three, but the Brewers outscored the Raptors 11-2 over the final 7:04 of the first half to take a 31-19 lead into the break. During the final 7:04 of the first, the Brewers held Bard to 1-11 shooting, and shot 80 percent (4-5) from the field.

Freshman Ariella Rosenthal (Mill Valley, CA/Redwood) was 5-of-6 from the floor in the opening stanza en route to 10 points, while Rose Serafini (Milton, Ontario, Canada/Milton Area) pulled down nine rebounds and blocked five shots. Vassar College led by as many as 17 during the second half, pulling away late after Bard had made it an eight-point game with 9:34 to play.

No Brewer took more than eight shots on the night, as Vassar College made a season-best 50.0 percent (21-42) from the floor. Rosenthal finished with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting, posting four steals as well, and Serafini added six points, seven swats, three assists and tied a career-high with 13 rebounds.

Junior guard Alex Moon (Mission Hills, CA/Bishop Alemany) registered a season-high nine points, pulling down seven rebounds as well, while Allyson Pemberton (Weston, MA/Weston) poured in eight points. The Brewers won the rebounding battle 42-29, and went 15-of-20 from the charity stripe.

Bard got a game-high 20 points out of Bianka Bell, while Riley finished with 11 points and a game-best 15 caroms. BC was 18-of-62 from the field (29.0 percent), including making just one of its seven shots from behind the arc (14.3 percent).

Vassar finishes its 2014-15 campaign Friday evening at 6 p.m., hosting Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the Athletics and Fitness Center in the Liberty League finale.
