Box Score MAHWAH, NJ (February 18, 2015) – The Vassar College men's volleyball team played its third game of an eight-game road trip Wednesday, falling to Ramapo College 3-0 in non-conference action from the Bradley Center. Vassar College dropped the match with scores of 25-20, 26-24 and 25-23.
The Brewers were right with the Roadrunners (5-7) for much of the match, but efficient hitting from Ramapo's Spencer Shickora and Nick Amos is what was the difference. Vassar College also hit just .130 on the night, along with registering two service aces, over six less than the season average for VC.
In the opening set, the Brewers (7-7) led 8-7 but Ramapo would tally eight of the game's next 10 points to take control of the set. Vassar trimmed the Roadrunner advantage to one at 17-16, but was unable to get any closer in falling 25-20. The second set saw the Brewers open up as much as a six-point lead at 16-10, but the hosts slowly made their way back into the game.
The Roadrunners tied the match at 21, and earned a set point at 24-23, but
Reno Kriz (Breinigsville, PA/Parkland) kept the Brewers in the game with a kill. Vassar College was unable to earn another point though, as a kill by Peter Desvousges and an attacking error by VC gave RC the 2-0 match lead.
In the final set, the two teams were tied seven times in the early going and exchanged leads twice, before Ramapo went on a 4-0 spurt to make the score 18-13. The Brewers didn't give up, pulling the set even at 19 after back-to-back kills from Kriz. The game saw four more tie scores down the stretch, but Ramapo posted the final two points of the match to pick up the victory.
Kriz finished the match with a game-high of 14 kills, hitting .250 on the night. Freshman
Jorge Rivera (San Juan, PR/Cupeyville) added six kills and four digs for Vassar, and sophomore
Quinn Rutledge (Chesterfield, VA/Cosby) came off the bench to hit .333 on the evening while gathering five terminations.
Sophomore libero
Trey Cimorelli (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) posted a contest-high of 11 digs, and freshman setter
Zechariah Lee (Santa Clarita, CA/Saugus) dished out 30 assists and posted one of Vassar's two service aces. Freshman
