Matthew Knigge (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) posted a whopping .750 hitting percentage for the Brewers Friday evening, leading the Vassar College men's volleyball team to a pair of 3-0 victories over Wells College and Mount Ida College in the 2015 season openers for the Brewers at the SUNYIT Tournament. The Brewers knocked off the Express 25-15, 25-15, 25-9, following that up with a 25-21, 25-16 and 25-14 win over Mount Ida.
Vassar 3, Wells College 0The Brewers posted a hitting percentage of .351 in the season opener against Wells, led by the 10-0-3 attacking rate from Knigge in rolling past the Express. Junior
Reno Kriz (Breinigsville, PA/Parkland) connected on .333 percent of his attacks, posting seven kills to go with five digs and three blocks. Freshman
Jorge Rivera (San Juan, PR/Cupeyville) added five kills and a team-high eight digs, while middle hitter
Erik Halberg (Newark, DE/Salesianum School) had a match-best five blocks for VC.
The Brewers got 22 assists in the win from freshman
Zechariah Lee (Santa Clarita, CA/Saugus), who also added three service aces, and Knigge chalked up four service aces and three blocks as well. Sophomore
Christian Lizana (Dublin, PA/Pennridge) registered three kills, two digs and three rejections in the win.
Vassar 3, Mount Ida 0Vassar College pushed itself into Pool A of play for Saturday with the second win of the day against Mount Ida. Knigge was even more efficient in the second match of his career, posting 10 kills on 12 swings, adding two blocks in the win for the Brewers. Halberg hit .625 in the match against MIC, pounding down five kills on eight attempts, and Kriz contributed four kills in two sets of play. Sophomore
Quinn Rutledge (Chesterfield, VA/Cosby) posted 23 assists in the victory, adding four digs, and fellow sophomore
Nick Zarchen (Santa Monica, CA/Santa Monica) tied for a team-best with four digs.

The Brewers will take on No. 9 Nazareth College tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the second day of action in the SUNYIT Tournament, followed by a match against Wentworth Institute of Technology at 3 p.m. in the final match in the championship pool.
