What to Look For:Vassar looked impressive in its 3-0 victory over Western Connecticut State. The team will attempt to continue its success and build confidence before their first Liberty League game against Skidmore on September 27. A win would give the Brewers their fourth straight victory and an impressive 5-2 record.
A Look at the Valiants (1-5):Manhattanville has had a tough start to their regular season, opening with two losses before recording its first win 2-1 against Ramapo. The Valiants have suffered two straight 1-0 defeats at the hands of Kean and Drew. The Valliants' play has improved as the season has progressed, and will look for more offensive production to get a few more wins under their belt.
The Valiants are led on offense by junior forward Christie Demarco, who has notched a team-high two goals and four points. She has also recorded almost half (13/29) of the team's shots thus far. Sophomore Dolores Diemicke, a part time goalie and field player, has played every minute this year of the year for the Valiants. In goal, Diemicke has allowed eight goals, for a goal's against average of 1.6, and has registered 43 saves, which currently leads the Freedom Conference.
Against Manhattanville All-Time:Vassar is 18-2 all-time against the Valiants, dating back to 1988. The two teams played every year from 1988-2004, during which Vassar won 15 games and only lost 2. Vassar is currently on a four-game win streak in the series, as Manhattanville's last win came in 2003 with a 1-0 victory over the Brewers. The team's last matchup was on September 21, 2013 in which Vassar came out ahead with a 2-1 victory in overtime.
Voegtlin Continues to Shine: Freshman forward
Katie Voegtlin (Fairfax Station, VA/Lake Braddock) has made her presence known in her first season. Voegtlin scored her second goal of the season and registered two assists, as she was a part of every goal Vassar scored in its 3-0 win over Western Connecticut State. She is now tied with senior
Chloe Wheeler (Thousand Oaks, CA/Westlake) for the team lead in points with six.
Wheeler Wows Again: Senior forward
Chloe Wheeler had another big impact game against Western Connecticut State on Wednesday. She scored her third goal of the year and 25
th career goal as a Brewer, which moved her into sole possession of 6
th place in Vassar's all-time records. Wheeler also now occupies the seventh spot all-time in career points with 55.
Entering the Scoring Column: Sophomore Forward
Emily Krebs recorded her first goal of the season against Western Connecticut State becoming the fourth Vassar player to find the back of the net this season.
Tough Road Ahead:The Brewers have a difficult schedule coming up, facing off against regionally-ranked No. 2 Union, No. 5 RIT, No. 9 William Smith, and No. 10 St. Lawrence in the coming weeks. Vassar also faces nationally ranked No. 14 Montclair State on October 8.
