POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 7, 2014) – Coming off a weekend split with Clarkson University, the Vassar College baseball team will look for the season sweep of Skidmore College Wednesday in Saratoga Springs, NY. The Brewers knocked off Skidmore 9-3 last Wednesday in Poughkeepsie, as Vassar College held Skidmore scoreless through the first seven innings of that ballgame to cruise to the win.

What To Watch ForThe Brewers will look for their third straight victory over the Thoroughbreds Wednesday, which will be only the fourth time in the last 14 seasons that VC has defeated Skidmore three consecutive games. Vassar's pitching has allowed just 18 earned runs over the five games, but this week will be interesting to see who gets the start on Wednesday after using a combined eight arms against Clarkson.
A Look At The BrewersLooking at Vassar, the Brewers have really hit the ball well of late, posting 49 hits in the four-game set with Clarkson. It marked the first time since the 2012 season that Vassar has posted four consecutive games with 10 or more hits. Sophomore

Zaziski leads the squad in batting average this year, posting a .500 clip (21-42) with eight doubles, a triple and three homers. Sophomore catcher

Vassar has gotten some solid work from its freshman starters this year, as
Trent Berg (Milton, MA/Boston College) leads the team with a 2.84 ERA, sporting a 2-0 record in two starts. Fellow newcomer
Adam Erkis (Villanova, PA/Radnor) is also 2-0 with a 3.44 ERA this season. Reliever
Connor Cucalon (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius) has pitched in four games, allowing no runs.
A Look At The Thoroughbreds Skidmore is coming into Wednesday's game off a sweep of Cazenovia College Saturday, earning the two wins with scores of 8-3 and 13-3. The Thoroughbreds have three losses in the Liberty League, having fallen to Vassar College and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute twice on Saturday. The Thoroughbreds are seventh in the league in batting this year with a .259 average, and currently rank seventh as well in ERA.
Alex Pavelock currently leads the way for the Thoroughbreds, posting a .405 batting average to go with three RBI and three runs scored. Jeff Spindell is hitting .368 in limited action for Skidmore, and Nick Barra has started 13 games and is batting .333. Erik Watkins leads the team in RBI with 11.
Skidmore has gotten solid production from its arms this season, as Isaac Forman is 1-1 with a 3.79 ERA in four appearances. Nick Petrella has tossed 19 innings so far and is 0-2 with a 4.26 ERA, and Ben Murphy is 1-2 with a 5.02 earned run average in 14.1 frames. Kenny Ajello is 2-0 for Skidmore, going 2-0 in two starts with 11 strikeouts. SC has struck out 65 batters in 107.1 innings on the mound, allowing 117 hits.
