The Brewers are now a combined 83-54 in singles play for 2013-14 and have an above .500 record in every spot in the lineup, Liberty League play, dual matches and tournament play. The same goes for doubles. Vassar is 46-24 with the more-than-average records at all three positions, Liberty League, dual match and tournament action. All but one doubles combination and one singles player has winning streaks.
A Look At The Engineers#13 MIT went head-to-head with #4 Amherst College during the Nor'easter Bowl Finals at Brandeis University. The Engineers fell to Amherst 9-0. Only one match went to a third set, one had a second set tiebreaker and the third was a 7-7 doubles match needing the extra games to be played.
Elysa Kohrs and Wendi Kong lead the Engineers in singles. Both have won 15 matches with Kohrs operating at either No. 1 or No. 2 in the lineup and Kong jumping between every spot except No. 1. Kohrs has dropped five matches on the year while Kong has lost six. Kohrs teams with Victoria Tam and the pair have a 15-5 overall record with an 11-3 stay at No. 2 doubles. The Engineers are 84-40 in singles and 49-18 in doubles.
Against MIT All-TimeThe Brewers have a secure hold of the Vassar-MIT series with a record of 16-6. The Brewers had a winning streak of eight, spanning from 2003 to 2010, ending in 2011's 8-1 loss on the road. In the team's last meeting in 2012, the Brewers topped the Engineers 7-2 at home.
Kantor's Four YearsKantor helped maintain the Brewers' national-rankings all four years. Playoff PictureThe Thoroughbreds of Skidmore College will host the #1 spot in the Liberty League Championships at St. Lawrence University. They will either host Bard College or RIT depending on if the Raptors lose both matches with Union and William Smith, making them a 0-4 League team. RIT is also 0-4 but has the lower overall win/loss record and neither team holds a tie-break over each other. Most likely, #1 Skidmore will take on #8 RIT.
#2 Vassar will face #7 Bard. #3 St. Lawrence will take on #6 William Smith and RPI and Union will face each other with possible 2-2 League records each.
Leading The BestJunior
Samantha Schapiro (Milford, NJ/Rutgers Preparatory School) leads the Liberty League at the No. 1 position with her 10-4 record (71.4 percent) while William Smith's Hannah More follows with a 7-3 history (70.0 percent).
