POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 17, 2014) – The Vassar College baseball team is coming off a solid 7-5 victory over Mount St. Mary College on Wednesday afternoon. This weekend, the Brewers travel to Rochester, NY to take on the Yellowjackets of the University of Rochester in back-to-back doubleheaders.

What To Look ForThe Brewers travel to Rochester for four pivotal Liberty League games. The Brewers are currently third in the conference, while Rochester is fifth. However, because of all of the postponements, Rochester has played ten more conference games than Vassar and that experience in back-to-back doubleheaders may prove useful against the Brewers.

Trent Berg (Milton, MA/Boston College) pitched a perfect three innings to earn the victory. The Brewers hit .303 on Wednesday, while holding the Knights to just a .226 average. Sophomores
Nick Johnson (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius) and
Cory Wuenschell (Pittsburgh, PA/Mount Lebanon) both hit doubles for the Brewers as Johnson finished going 2-for-5 and Wuenschell hit 1-of-3 on the day.
The Vassar batters are hitting .303 on the season.
Brett Zasiski (Randolph, NJ/Randolph), whose batting average of .471, slugging percentage of .863, and on-base percentage of .609 all lead the Brewers and the Liberty League. Johnson is currently fifth in the conference with a hitting percentage of .390, while sophomore
Brooks English (Milton, MA/Milton Academy) is eighth in the league at .375. Johnson leads the team with 17 RBI, while English is close behind with 16.

A Look At The YellowjacketsLike the Brewers, Rochester is also heading into this weekend with momentum, winning five straight and seven of their last eight. In a 6-0 victory against Ithaca College on Wednesday, seven Yellowjackets combined to hold the Bombers to just four hits and a .143 hitting percentage.
Offensively, Rochester is hitting .287 on the season. Sophomore Matt Todd leads the Yellowjackets with a batting average of .400, which is good for third in the Liberty League. Sophomore Nolan Schultz is currently 11
th in the conference with a hitting percentage of .363. Junior Brendan Garry leads the team with 18 RBI, while Schultz follows 17 RBI.
The pitching staff for the Jackets has been stellar, posting an ERA of 3.28, which leads the Liberty League. Sophomore Dan Warren is 3-0 on the season, and leads the Liberty League with a 0.57 ERA, allowing just five runs in 31.1 innings pitched. Warren and sophomore Michael Mondon lead the team with 25 strikeouts each. Sophomore closer Evan Janifer is also having a solid year, with just a 0.68 ERA and five saves.
Against Rochester All-TimeVassar is 6-25 all time against Rochester. The Brewers split last year's meeting with the Jackets, winning the nightcap of each doubleheader, 2-0 and 3-2, respectively.
