Box Score Game ProgramPOUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 12, 2014) – The Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers lived up to their status as the #1 men's lacrosse team in the country on Saturday afternoon by defeating the Vassar College Brewers 24-2 at Gordon Field.
The Tigers (12-0, 3-0 Liberty League) got off to an early 9-1 lead in the first quarter behind the two goal effort of Ryan Lee, the three assists from Allister Warren and the one goal, one helper showing from Casey Jackson.
The Brewers' (6-6, 1-3 Liberty League) lone goal in the first quarter came from Junior
Scott Brekne (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) at 7:00 with a freshman
Brandon DeStasio (West Hempstead, NY/Chaminade) assist.
Vassar's second goal wasn't until 5:46 in the second period. Senior
Max Herman (Flemington, NJ/Ward Melville) capitalized on a Tiger, double-penalty and found freshman
Sam Houston-Read (Waban, MA/Newtown South) for the man-up score and Vassar's final goal of the game.
Owen Nicola was the game's high scorer with three goals and one assist. A total of 17 Tigers scored on Saturday with another three recording assists, led by the three helpers from Warren.
The Tigers bested the Brewers in shots, 49-22 and recovered ground balls, 48-34.
Anthony DeLeo earned the win, making six saves and being credited with allowing both goals in the first half. Jarryd Lee came in goal to start the second half, recording seven saves. Senior
Andrew Nicol (Carmel, NY/Brewster) made seven saves of his own but allowed the first 19 goals in for the loss. Freshman
Brandon Crecco (Carmel, NY/Mahopac) played the final quarter, allowing five scores and stopping four.
The Brewers will next take to the road for a non-league game against Williams College on Wednesday, April 16 at 4:30 pm.
