Andrew Nicol (Carmel, NY/Brewster) made 14 saves out of the 22 shots on goal.
Nicol leads Vassar with 106 saves from 207 attempts on goal and 329 shots in total. He is 6-5 on the season and has also recovered 26 ground balls and has caused four turnovers. Freshman
Liam Moriarty (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) is the team leader in ground balls with 43 while also acting as a near .500 faceoff specialist, winning 57-of-119 starts. Junior
Scott Brekne (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) follows with 42 ground balls and is 43-of-90 from faceoffs.
Herman leads the Brewers with 42 points from 26 goals and 16 assists. His shot on goal percentage is 58.1 percent with 50-of-86 shots being on target. Both his goal and assist totals are team-highs and he now has a career points standing of 129. He captured the school record back against SUNY Cobleskill on March 11 when he got his 100
th point, tied the record of 102 and surpassed it with 105 by the end of the game.
A Look At The TigersRIT was the reigning National runner-ups after falling to Stevenson University last year. This season, the Tigers opened by defeating Stevenson 15-14 in overtime, and then went on to top then #2 SUNY Cortland (18-11), #10 Western New England University (18-6) and #17 Ithaca College (15-11). Their record remains unblemished at 12-0 as they recently defeated crosstown rivals, Nazareth College 14-11. Kyle Aquin led RIT with four goals and assisted on the game-winning goal from Taylor Wisman. Pat Johnson had 13 saves from 24 shots on goal.
The Tigers have three players with 40+ points this season. Ryan Lee leads with 48 from 27 goals and a team-high 21 assists. Casey Jackson had 43 points with the majority coming from his 37 goals. Aquin scored 31 times and helped 11 for 42 points. Tyler Brooks-Lambert is 158-of-265 (59.6 percent) from faceoffs and is the team leader with 100 ground balls. Johnson has stopped 118 shots from slipping by out of the 190 on goal.
Against RIT All-TimeThe Tigers only just joined the Liberty League back in 2012 so these two teams have only met twice. In the first meeting, RIT walked away with a 19-6 win and expanded the scoring gap in 2013 with a 25-3 win.
Helping Across The NationRIT leads the nation in assists per game with an average of 11.64. The Brewers are just outside of the Top 10 at #11 with 8.6 assists per game. Five Vassar players are ranked in the Top 250 in assists per game as well. The Tigers have three.
National NumbersRIT is Top 5 in five categories in the nation and Top 10 in six. The Tigers' man-down defense is the only statistical team category where they are not in the Top 100. They have players in the Top 100 in 14 spots.
Everyone Together Now…The Brewers are composed of a 30-player roster and out of the entire group, 17 have recorded points this year and only two of those 17 have not been credited with an assist. Nine players on the RIT roster have never assisted on a score but have recorded goals of their own.
Up NextThe Brewers will next hit the road for their final two away games of the season. Their first stop is in Williamstown, MA on Wednesday, April 16 for a 4:30 pm start against the Ephs of Williams College. They will then travel to Schenectady, NY to face Liberty League opponent and nationally-ranked #7 Union College on Saturday, April 19 at 1:00 pm.
