MONTCLAIR, NJ (March 5, 2014) – The Vassar College men's lacrosse team was dealt their first loss of the season at #17 Montclair State University 14-7 Wednesday evening at Sprague Field.
Senior
Max Herman (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional) recorded his second hat-trick and was the only Brewer who scored in the first half. His first goal was assisted by junior
Sean Brazier (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) at 8:16 in the first quarter. Herman got the Brewers' (1-1) their second goal at 9:46 in the third quarter, making it a 9-2 score in favor of Montclair and essentially opening the flood gates for Vassar scorers. His final goal was netted at the start of the fourth quarter.
Freshman
Liam Moriarty (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) recorded Vassar's next goal at 6:17 of the third and was followed by sophomore
Colin Cederna (Milan, MI/Saline) at 3:42.
Brazier netted the Brewers' sixth goal of the night at 14:11 of the fourth quarter, just 20 seconds after Herman completed the hat-trick. Sophomore
Noah Parson (Cary, NC/Panther Creek) grabbed a pass from Moriarty with less than a minute on the clock for Vassar's seventh goal of the evening despite the deficit, 14-goal performance by Montclair. Moriarty finished the night with two assists.
Both the Brewers and the Red Hawks (4-0) scored three goals in the third and fourth quarters. Montclair's four-goal first and second periods were too much to come back from.
Vassar's defensive play was silent as the Red Hawks recovered 41 ground balls compared to Vassar's 19. Montclair also managed to complete 15-of-15 clear attempts while the Brewers were 13-of-21. Vassar fired 25 shots on the evening while the offense of Montclair shot 37 times.

The Brewers return to Poughkeepsie as they next host the Garnet of Swarthmore College on Saturday, March 8 at 1:00 pm on Weinberg Field.
