Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 2, 2014) – The Vassar College men's volleyball team, suffering from injuries to three starters, were unable to pick up a win during  a non-conference tri-match at neighboring New Paltz, falling to the host Hawks and Dominican University (IL).

The Brewers took the No. 1 ranked New Paltz volleyball team to four games, marking the second occasion this season that Vassar won at least one game from the Hawks. Vassar nearly upset New Paltz back on January 29 in its second match of the year, falling in five games. Vassar dropped the first set 25-18, but rallied to earn a 25-21 victory in the second game. NP (16-2) would hit its stride in the third set, taking the next two sets 25-10 and 25-21 to earn the victory.

Vassar got a game-best 17 points from Reno Kriz (Breinigsville, PA/Parkland), as he terminated 14 attacks to go with two service aces and a block. Junior Colin White-Dzuro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Royal St. George) added eight kills and four digs, and normal libero Trey Cimorelli (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) played outside hitter Sunday and posted five kills, two aces and seven digs.

Freshman setter Colin Peros (Honolulu, HI/Punahou) continued to look comfortable in the role, as he had 22 assists, five digs, while being successful on four of his six attacks. Vassar finished with an attacking rate of .063 against the Hawks, ending the contest with 27 errors.

Vassar didn't fare well in the second match of the day against Dominican, as DU knocked off VC 25-18, 25-9 and 25-17. Vassar led 14-11 at one point in the first set, but Dominican went on a 7-1 run to pull away. The Stars (7-6) fine hitting in sets two and three doomed Vassar, as DU hit .429 and .357 in the last two games to earn the match victory.

Vassar was paced by the eight kills from Kriz, and White-Dzuro and Cimorelli combined for nine terminations. Cimorelli added a team-best nine digs, and Peros handed out 17 assists in the loss. Freshman Anthony Choquette (Pembroke, NH/Lawrence) added three kills in eight chances, also adding the team's only two service aces.

The Brewers will leap back into United Volleyball Conference action Wednesday, heading to Annandale-On-Hudson, NY to take on the Raptors of Bard College at 7 p.m. in Stevenson Athletic Center.
