CAMBRIDGE, MA – The Vassar College men's volleyball team traveled to Cambridge, MA Saturday to take part in the first United Volleyball Conference (UVC) crossover of the season, falling to Nazareth College 3-0 in the opening match of the day. Vassar responded to knock off D'Youville College in three games in the nightcap.
The Brewers (2-3, 1-2 UVC) dropped the contest with scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 26-24. Vassar struggled offensively against the Golden Flyers (3-2, 2-0 UVC), who held VC to a 30-26-95 (.042) hitting percentage. Vassar would take the third game to extra points, but defending national runner-up Nazareth would pull away for the match victory.

Reno Kriz (Breinigsville, PA/Parkland) led the Brewers with a team-best 11 kills, posting two assisted blocks and five digs as well. Senior
Joe Pyne (Los Angeles, CA/Oakwood Secondary) finished with eight kills, three aces and three digs, and freshman libero
Trey Cimorelli (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) had a game-high 15 digs for VC. Junior setter
Colin White-Dzuro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Royal St. George) added 25 assists against Nazareth.
The Brewers did well to earn an even split on the afternoon, responding with a win over D'Youville (2-4, 1-2 UVC) with tallies of 25-16, 26-24 and 25-16. The Brewers had one of their best offensive contests of the year, posting a .326 hitting percentage (40-12-86) in the victory.
Kriz again paced the Brewer hitters with 13 kills, posting no errors on 25 attempts (.520). Freshman middle hitter
Christian Lizana (Dublin, PA/Pennridge) finished with six kills, four assisted blocks and two aces, while fellow middle
Erik Halberg (Newark, DE/Salesianum School scored on four of his six swings.
Pyne added five kills, White-Dzuro had 18 assists and a team-best seven digs, and
Quinn Rutledge (Chesterfield, VA/Cosby) came off the bench to post eight helpers and four digs.
Vassar will finish play at the UVC Crossover Sunday morning against Elmira College at noon.
