POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 26, 2014) – Junior Alex Snyder (Rutland, VT/Rutland) pulled down two of the most important rebounds of the game in the final 0:14 of play, securing the Vassar College men's basketball team its first Liberty League playoff win in program history with a 66-62 sweater against Skidmore College Wednesday evening at the Athletics and Fitness Center.

After Aldin Medunjanin missed a three-pointer with 0:26 to go and Perun Kovacevic grabbed the second-chance board, the Thoroughbreds (16-10, 10-6 Liberty League) called a full timeout to plan their attack. Four seconds into the inbound pass, Tanner Brooks shot a long three-pointer which rimmed up and away into the hands of Snyder.

Kovacevic fouled Snyder almost immediately, sending the forward to the charity line for two. Snyder missed his first but drained the second, giving Vassar the four-point, 66-62 lead. Medunjanin missed Skidmore's last chance as closing the gap when his layup hit board and box but rolled out for Snyder's 12th board of the evening as time expired on Skidmore's postseason. Snyder also scored 10 points for his 10th double-double of the year.

The Brewers (19-7, 10-6 Liberty League) had a total of five players in double-digit scoring. Sophomore Johnny Mrlik (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius College Preparatory) led Vassar with 18 points while junior Luka Ladan (Belmont, MA/Belmont) followed with 12, sophomore Erikson Wasyl (Durham, CT/Coginchaug) posted 11 and junior Curtis Smith (Mastic, NY/Eastport South Manor) recorded 10. Ladan also supplemented the boards game with eight rebounds.

Tanner Brooks was the game-high scorer, recording 22 points to Skidmore's total. Medunjanin finished with 11 while Sanders and Connor Merrill both had 10 on the night. Kovacevic led the Thoroughbreds with 12 rebounds.

Skidmore placed 63 shots in the air tonight while Vassar only fired 45. The Brewers, however, netted 25 while the Thoroughbreds only drained 22 despite the 15-of-34 first half from the floor performance, led by Brooks' 4-of-7 from three-point land.

The win now makes the 2013-14 Vassar College Brewers the winningest team in program history with 19 season victories.

#2 Vassar will next travel to Geneva, NY to face #1 Hobart College with a time yet to be determined on Saturday, March 1. The Statesmen earned a 78-69 overtime win over #4 Clarkson University on Wednesday evening.
