Men's Volleyball Cruises Past Sage Friday, 3-0

Box Score TROY, NY (February 21, 2014) -- The Vassar College men's volleyball team had little trouble Friday night, dispatching of hosting Sage Colleges 3-0 in non-conference play. The Brewers earned the victory with scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-16.

The Brewers opened up as much as a 10-point advantage in the first set, as they hit a cool .393 in the opening set, holding the Gators (1-8) to a hitting percentage of .000.

Vassar (4-7) improved its hitting percentage to over 40 percent in the second set, pulling away for the 2-0 match lead. In the final game, VC finished the set with a 8-0 run to earn the clean sweep.

Sophomore Reno Kriz (Breinigsville, PA/Parkland) once again paced the offense for the Brewers, chalking up 14 kills on 25 swings, adding five service aces and four digs. Senior Joe Pyne (Los Angeles, CA/Oakwood Secondary) had nine kills and six digs, while Colin White-Dzuro (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Royal St. George) had 15 helpers, nine kills, five digs and three assisted blocks.

Sophomore middle hitter Erik Halberg (Newark, DE/Salesianum) finished with six kills on 12 attacks, adding three blocks, and freshman Colin Peros (Honolulu, HI/Punahou) came off the bench to dish out 21 assists.

The Brewers posted a 45-12-88 (.375) hitting clip for the night, and also had 10 service aces. Vassar also sided out at a 69 percent (35-50) rate. Trey Cimorelli (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) led the Brewers with nine digs.

Sage was led by the seven kills form Dylan Krowicki, and Matthew DeGeyter had 16 assists. TSC hit .101 on the night, but registered just one ace on the night.

Vassar is back in action tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. in Cambridge, MA against Massachusetts Institute of Technology in United Volleyball Conference (UVC) action.
