Box Score MONTCLAIR, NJ (October 8, 2014) – Montclair State senior Kaila Fasano tallied a pair of second half goals, as the No. 12 Red Hawks held off Vassar College 2-0 Wednesday evening. The Brewers were outshot 16-0 in the contest, and move to 5-4-3 on the year with the defeat. Montclair State improves to 11-1 on the season with its 11
th consecutive shutout coming against Vassar.
The Brewers were tasked with cracking one of the best defensive units in the country in the game, as Montclair entered Wednesday's matched ranked first in the nation in shutout percentage (.909). The VC defense held tight in the first half, allowing the Red Hawks only five shots through the first 45 minutes. The teams entered halftime knotted at zero, but the hosts went to work breaking the tie in the second half.
Montclair finally broke through in the 57
th minute, as Fasano found an opening in the attacking third. Fasano blasted a shot from the top of the box, which went in the left side of the net for her seventh goal of the season. Fasano capitalized on another opportunity in the 67
th minute, as a feed from senior Catherine Zysk found her teammate for an open shot off the far post to give the Red Hawks a 2-0 advantage.
The Brewers allowed only two more shots on the game to the Red Hawks, both of which were saved by sophomore goalie
