#9 Women’s Soccer Rolls Past Sarah Lawrence In Non-Conference Finale

Panarelli nets hat trick; 10 Brewers record at least one point

Poughkeepsie, NY – Senior Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) netted a hat trick and was one of 10 different Brewers to record a point on Sunday as the #9 Vassar College Women's Soccer team overwhelmed Sarah Lawrence at Gordon Field, 8-1.
 
Vassar pushes its unbeaten streak to 11 games to start the season at 7-0-4 while the Gryphons slip to 7-2-5.
 
How It Happened
  • Panarelli started the scoring early on Sunday, finishing off a passing play from Ava Cipolla (Parkland, FL) and Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO) only 3:10 into the contest.
  • Liv Ivie (Agoura Hills, CA) doubled the Vassar lead in the 38th minute when she tallied off feeds from Reese Yowell (Palmyra, VA) and Anna Mayor (Mountain Brook, AL) at 37:26.
  • Leading 2-0 at the intermission, Vassar held a 14-1 advantage in shots and a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks.
  • The Brewers erupted for six more goals after halftime, starting with Zoe Sharaf's (Middleton, WI) first career goal 52:04 into the tilt.
  • Following the Sharaf marker, Vassar conceded just its second goal of the season when Sarah Lawrence's Zoey Barth found the back of the net only 35 seconds later.
  • Vassar added five more goals over the final 15 minutes of action with Anna Arban (Temecula, CA) finding the back of the net at 75:51.
  • 27 seconds later, Panarelli turned a turnover into her second marker of the game to push the Brewers' advantage to 76:18.
  • Ivie scored for the second time, and third time in two games, when she hammered home a feed from Sonya Franklin (Saxtons River, VT) with 11 minutes left in the game.
  • Caroline Sheehan (Springfield, IL) found the scoring column for Vassar with just over five minutes left to play.
  • Panarelli closed out the scoring and finished off the hat trick 33 seconds after the Sheehan tally to give Vassar the final seven-goal decision.
  • Vassar held a 16-3 advantage in shots in the second half and took 10 corner kicks.
 
For the Brewers
  • Panarelli stands in second-place on the team with five goals following Sunday's performance and became the second Brewer to reach double-figures in points on the season.
  • Crowley pushed her team lead in points to 15 following her first assist of the year.
  • Arban and Ivie are each tied for second on the team in goals with three and tied for fourth in points with seven.
  • Sheehan moved into third on the team in points with eight following a three-point performance on Sunday.
  • Yowell closed the game with a pair of assists and is tied for second on the team in helpers with three.
  • Ava Holman (St. Louis, MO) joins Yowell with three assists after helping on the Sharaf tally.
  • Sharaf found the scoring column for the first time in her career on Sunday.
  • Mayor picked up her first career point with an assist on the eventual game winning goal.
  • Maddie Harmon (Torrance, CA) also recorded her first career assist after helping on the Brewers' final goal.
  • Cipolla finished off the win with first assist and third point of the season.
  • Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA), Emily McMahon (Mill Valley, CA) and Isabella Stevens-Mercado (Ann Arbor, MI) combined on the victory for the Brewers in goal.
 
For The Gryphons
  • Barth scored her second goal of the season for Sarah Lawrence.
  • Bella Vaca suffered the loss in goal, making six saves for the Gryphons.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar held a commanding 30-4 advantage in overall shots and a 15-1 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Brewers by a wide 14-0 margin.
  • Fouls in the contest were even at 7-7.
