Brewers Extend Unbeaten Streak With Draw At Union

Brewers unbeaten in nine games to start the season

Schenectady, NY – The #9 Vassar College Women's Soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to start the season to nine games Wednesday night following a scoreless draw on the road at league rival Union. Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) recorded her sixth shutout of the season in the contest for the Brewers.
 
Wednesday's result moves Vassar to 5-0-4 overall on the season and 2-0-2 against conference rivals. Union now stands at 4-3-4 overall and 2-0-2 in Liberty League play.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar held a lopsided 7-1 advantage in shots prior to halftime, but was unable to find the back of the net.
  • Union goalkeeper, Maya Koster, made a pair of saves in the opening frame to keep Vassar off the board.
  • Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) in the 11th minute and Sonya Franklin (Saxton River, VT) in the 40th minute had the shots on goal for the Brewers in the first half.
  • The Brewers closed the first half taking five of the six corner kicks in the stanza.
  • The Brewers continued to control play in the second frame, unleashing eight more shots.
  • Koster was busy in the second frame, turning aside four more Vassar attempts.
  • Koster saved back-to-back shots from Lucy Hart (Portland, ME) and Panarelli in the middle stages of the second frame.
  • The final save for Koster came off an attempt from Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO) with just over 15 minutes left in the contest.
  • The Brewers outshot Union 8-1 in the second half.
  • Union took the only corner kick after halftime.
For The Brewers
  • Shea earned her sixth shutout of the season on Wednesday without having to make a save.
  • Shea is now boasting a 0.12 goals against average on the season and a .947 save percentage.
  • Panarelli led all players in the game with seven shots, putting two on frame.
  • Elena Valle (Rocky Hill, CT) finished with a pair of shots, including one shot on goal.

  • Koster earned the shutout for Union with six saves on the night.
