Last Time Out: The Brewers played to a 1-1 tie with Bard in double overtime this past Tuesday at Vassar College, with the team's lone goal coming from senior
Chloe Wheeler (Thousand Oaks, CA/Westlake). VC is basically looking at a must-win situation to earn a bid to the Liberty League playoffs, as a loss will eliminate them and a tie will require help from other teams to make it.
A Look at the Dutchwomen: The Dutchwomen are 10-4-2 this season, holding a 2-3-2 Liberty League record. They are sixth in the Liberty League standings, and are coming off a 3-2 non-conference win over Castleton State Wednesday and a 1-2 conference loss against RIT last Saturday.
Attacking threats for the Dutchwomen include senior Whitney Bickford, freshman Katie Monahan and junior Breana Derella. Bickford is the category leader with five goals and four assists for a total of 14 points, while Monahan and Derella each have four goals. Monahan has thus totaled ten points, with Derella has tallied nine. Senior goalkeeper Allison Brustowicz has played in all 16 of the Dutchwomen's games this season, averaging .73 goals against per game and making 80 saves.
All-Time Series:The Brewers currently hold a record of 9-14-4 against the Dutchwomen. The last time that these two teams met in 2013, Vassar pulled off a 2-1 overtime victory thanks to goals from
Kelsey Hamm (Wilmington, NC/John T. Hoggard) and
Chloe Wheeler.
Final Liberty Weekend:This will be the final weekend of competition in the Liberty League, with two other conference matchups including RIT at William Smith and St. Lawrence at Clarkson. William Smith (7-0) has locked up the No. 1 seed, while RPI (6-2) will host the other game at the No. 2 seed. An RIT win over the Herons will secure a bid, but the Tigers will be hard pressed to down the William Smith, as the team has not lost since September 6. St. Lawrence vs. Clarkson will also be a big match, as the Saints can punch a playoff ticket with a win.
Next Up: Vassar's participation in the Liberty League tournament will depend on the outcome of this Saturday's game. If the Brewers qualify, they would play Wednesday at a site and time TBD.
