What To Look ForThe Brewers haven't been able to get over the hump in their last three games, falling to Union, St. Lawrence and Skidmore all by the same 2-1 score line. Vassar College has done well in non-conference games this season, posting a stellar 8-1 record in contests out of the Liberty League. The Brewers have two tough tests though at the end of the year, traveling to Scranton and New Paltz this week. Tuesday at Scranton, Vassar will look to do something that has been tough all season and that's score on the Royals at home. Scranton has surrendered just two home goals all season, both in a loss to Catholic back on October 18.
A Look at the RoyalsScranton comes into the game with Vassar off a 6-0 win at home over Moravian College Saturday afternoon, and will take on Drew University Monday evening in the first half of a back-to-back. The Royals are currently fourth in the Landmark Conference, and Monday's game with Drew will be critical as the Rangers trail Scranton by a game in the standings. If Drew defeats Scranton, they would take over the final playoff spot but a Royal's win would clinch a Landmark playoff spot Monday night.
The Scranton offense is among the best in the Landmark, as the top two point getters come from the Royal sidelines. Alyssa Fania leads the way with a league-best 38 points, and is second in the conference in goals with 15, while teammate Krista Osborne has 36 points and a league-high 16 scores. Cassie Mullen is third in the Landmark Conference with six assists, and keeper Krista Mundy leads the Landmark with five shutouts, posting the third-lowest goals-against average with a 0.87 mark. Defender Bridget Brady has a team-high two defensive saves, as she has started all 15 games for the Royals.
Against Scranton All-TimeThe Brewers will look to even the all-time series with the University of Scranton Tuesday, as the Royals currently have a 4-3 advantage against Vassar. Last season, the Brewers rallied to defeat Scranton 2-1 in overtime, getting a
Tina Caso strike late in regulation to tie the match and then another Caso goal in the extra session to win it. Of the seven previous games, five have been one-goal affairs.
Want To Come HomeThe Brewers have struggled during their current five-game road trip, dropping the first three games of the stretch. VC finishes the year with two road games.
Into FourthJunior
Lauren Wiebe (Chicago, IL/Francis W. Parker) moved into fourth all-time on the Vassar College career goal scoring list with 22 after her goal Saturday at Skidmore.
On PaceThe Brewers currently have posted a goals-against average of 1.26 goals per game, which is the best rate in school history, ahead of last year's 1.69.
2-1 All The TimeThe Brewers have gone 4-3 over their last seven games, and a 2-1 score has decided all but one of those games.
Snap This StreakThe Brewers have lost three straight games for the first time in head coach
Michael Warari's tenure, and for the first time since falling in the final five games of the 2012 season.
Back To The DanceAfter never qualifying for the Liberty League Tournament, the Vassar field hockey team has now accomplished the feat the past two seasons.
Up NextVassar finishes the regular season on Saturday at New Paltz at 1 p.m. in non-conference action with its Hudson Valley rival.
