Vassar Men's Lacrosse Falls 12-9 at Drew

MADISON, NJ (April 20, 2013) – Freshman attack Noah Parson notched three goals and an assist Saturday at Drew, but it was not enough for the Vassar men's lacrosse team in a 12-9 defeat.

Freshman midfielder Shane Flattery, sophomore midfielder Scott Brekne and Parson all scored in the first quarter to push the Brewers to a 3-2 lead and Flattery found the net again with 7:57 left in the second quarter to tie it 4-4.

As has been the case much of the season, however, the numbers game caught up with a shorthanded Vassar squad in the final 30 minutes. Drew scored three unanswered goals midway through the fourth quarter and the Rangers would go on to claim the 12-9 victory.

Vassar dropped to 3-9 on the year and suffered its sixth consecutive defeat while Drew improved to 3-9. The Brewers host Liberty League rival Union at 7:00 pm Wednesday in the final home game of the season while the Rangers host RPI also at 7:00 pm Wednesday.

Brekne scored two goals to join Parson and Flattery in the multi-goal category for the Brewers, winning 13 faceoffs and 12 ground balls in the process. Freshman attack Colin Cederna had two assists with junior attack Max Herman and sophomore midfielder Sean Brazier also scoring Vassar goals. Junior goalie Andrew Nicol made 10 saves and tallied 10 ground balls.

Patrick Lamon had four goals and an assist to lead Drew to the win with Scott Humphreys scoring three times and Eric Tripp putting up two goals and four assists.
