Fast Skidmore Scoring Defeats Men's Lacrosse, 14-4

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (March 30, 2013) – The Vassar College men's lacrosse team fell to strong first and third quarter scoring runs by Liberty League host Skidmore College, 14-4 on Saturday afternoon.

Skidmore's Matt Ohara recorded five goals from his nine shots, leading the Thoroughbreds to their first Liberty League win of the season. Junior attacker Max Herman and freshman attacker Noah Parson each had a goal and an assist in the Brewer's second League loss.

Vassar falls to 3-6 and 0-2 in the League with the loss. The Brewers will next host St. Lawrence University on Saturday, April 6 at 1:00 pm during Vassar's first NCAA Student Athlete Day. It also marks the halfway point in their Liberty League schedule. The Thoroughbreds improve to 3-6 and break even in Liberty League action at 1-1. They visit RPI at 4:00 pm on April 3.

Ohara opened the scoring for Skidmore in under a minute off an assist from Bryan Connolly. Vassar then surprised the hosts with back-to-back goals for their only lead of the game.

Skidmore responded with nine unanswered goals before Vassar scored their remaining two in the third quarter. The Thoroughbreds added another four at that point, closing out the game.

Sophomore midfielder Scott Brekne led both teams recovering seven ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Sean Brazier added to the defensive side with three caused turnovers. Junior goalie Andrew Nicol recorded 24 saves.

Matt Diaco picked up the win for Skidmore with 11 saves and four goals allowed.
