Rochester tallied two runs in the fourth inning to give it the edge in the first game. The Brewers retaliated in the second game, out-hitting the Yellowjackets 10-5. Junior designated hitter
Brett Zaziski had the game-winning RBI single in the top of the ninth giving Vassar the edge late in the game.
The Brewers (6-5, 2-2 Liberty League) will next host their make-up doubleheader with Liberty League opponent Clarkson Wednesday, April 3 at 1:30 pm. The Yellowjackets (7-7, 3-3 Liberty League) will visit St. John Fisher on Tuesday, April 2 at 3:00 pm.
Rochester opened the afternoon's scoring in the fourth inning when catcher Nolan Schultz sent a long double to right field, bringing in Josh Ludwig. Brian Munoz singled to right field that same inning to bring in Schultz and give Rochester the two runs necessary for the win. Despite doubles from Zaziski, junior
Dave Robbins and senior
Mike Perrone, the Brewers were unable to find a breakthrough in the low-scoring matchup.
The Brewers came back in the nightcap, propelled by strong pitching from freshman righty
Jonathan Hong, who allowed only four hits over seven innings. The breakthrough for Vassar came in the seventh, when freshman
Nick Johnson smashed a huge double down the left field line bringing in Perrone and senior catcher
A.J. Kim to put Vassar up 2-0.
Rochester fought back in the bottom of the eighth with a pair of runs to tie the game. With the game tied in the top of the ninth and two men out, Zaziski sent a clutch single to left field to bring in Perrone and put the Brewers ahead for good.
John Menke struck out eight Brewers, despite being allowing two of the three runs. Michael Mondon took the loss for Rochester.
