Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 13, 2013) – Freshman attack Noah Parson scored a career-high five goals and sophomore midfielder Scott Brekne had a strong game as well with two goals, an assist and a career-high 17 ground balls, but it was not enough as the Vassar College men's lacrosse team fell 14-9 to visiting Western Connecticut State University Wednesday afternoon at Weinberg Field. Sophomore goalie Andrew Nicol tied his season high by making 18 saves for the second consecutive contest.

Vassar got off to a hot start, scoring five times in the first 21:08 to take a 5-2 lead. Freshman attack Colin Cederna culminated that burst for the Brewers with a goal early in the second quarter, his seventh of the season. However, the Colonials got untracked after that, scoring 11 unanswered goals and turning a 5-5 deadlock at the half into a 12-5 lead going into the fourth quarter.

The loss drops the Brewers to a record of 2-3 as they will next host Mount Saint Mary College at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 16. The Colonials will next host Plattsburg State University on Saturday, March 16 at 6:00 pm with a record of 4-1.

Following a WCSU man-up tally 21 seconds into the final period, the Brewers fought back valiantly by scoring four of the game's last five goals, all in the final five and a half minutes. Parson put three of those goals in the net himself to raise his team-leading total to 15 goals on the year.

Brekne finished with 14 face-off wins to add to his 17 ground balls, two goals and an assist. Cederna and junior attack Max Herman notched a goal and two assists apiece while Nicol recorded five ground balls to go along with 18 saves and a strong performance between the pipes for Vassar.

Ryan Foster scored three goals, picked up a team-best eight ground balls and handed out three assists to lead Western Connecticut to the victory; also scoring three times for the Colonials were Anthony Nejame and Nate Wilson. Chris Alexander made 11 saves for WCSU.
