Smith Hits Career High; Men's Basketball Falls To RPI

TROY, NY (February 5, 2013) – Sophomore guard Curtis Smith hit a career-high, 20 points but the Vassar College men's basketball team fell to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Tuesday evening 85-76.

Vassar's shooting was spot on in the first half as the Brewers went into halftime with a three-point, 46-43 lead. The shooting in the second half waivered for the Brewers as the Engineers broke open a 42-30 scoring effort.

With 16:11 remaining in the game, RPI's Josh Dugas hit a layup, starting a 17-2 run that took the 56-54 lead away from the Brewers, 69-58. Vassar fought back with a 13-3 run highlighted by Smith's two 3-pointers and two free throws, junior guard Sam Rappaport's 3-pointer and sophomore forward Alex Snyder's layup.

RPI finished the game with a 13-5 run featuring nine free throws from six different players.

Brendan Farley scored a game-high, 22 points, leading RPI. Smith was 5-9 from beyond the 3-point arc, 3-4 from the line and 1-5 from the floor. Snyder hit his ninth double-double of the season with 13 points and 16 rebounds. Freshman Erikson Wasyl scored 14 points and Rappaport added 11.

The Engineers' bench scored 41 points while Vassar's only scored 16 points.
