POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 1, 2013) – The Vassar College men's basketball team put up a spirited performance but succumbed to Clarkson University 72-54 at the Athletics and Fitness Center Friday evening.

Sophomore forward Alex Snyder hit a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, leading the Brewers in both categories in a game that stayed physical and competitive for all 40 minutes.

The Brewers, now 6-13 (2-8 Liberty League) will next face St. Lawrence at home on Saturday, February 2 at 4:00 pm.  The Golden Knights of Clarkson 14-5 (6-4 Liberty League) will travel to Annandale-on-Hudson to face Bard College on Saturday, February 2 at 4:00 pm.

Clarkson opened the game with a 16-2 scoring run to put distance between themselves and the Brewers. However, in the eighth minute Vassar sophomore guard Curtis Smith and senior guard Jon Herzog hit back-to-back 3-pointers to end the dry spell and bring the Brewers back into the action 16-8. The Brewers couldn't manage to make up to difference on Clarkson, and ended the half down 21-34.

The Brewers, fueled by the raucous crowd, kept up the intensity in the second half, and never let Clarkson get too comfortable with their lead. Herzog came off the bench to go 3-4 on 3-pointers to keep the Golden Knights in sight. However, the Brewers ran out of time to make a comeback, and ended with an 18-point deficit at the final buzzer.
