Men's Hoops Travels To Conn. College In Hopes To Outlast Camel Shooters Tuesday

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (December 9, 2013) – The Vassar College men's basketball team will travel to New London, CT tomorrow evening to face the Camels of Connecticut College in an 8:00 pm tip-off.

What to Look For
The Brewers (4-1) are coming off a 63-53 win over the Drew University Rangers last Tuesday evening at the Athletics and Fitness Center. The win gives the Brewers their first four-game win streak since the 2007-08 season. Junior forward Luka Ladan (Belmont, MA/Belmont) finished the game with 15 points and 13 rebounds for his first double-double since his freshman year. His 13 boards were a career-high along with being a game-high. Junior forward Alex Snyder (Rutland, VT/Rutland) earned his fourth double-double of the year with a 15 point-10 boards outing.

The Brewers are averaging 71.4 points per game while only allowing 64.0 points a contest from opponents. Vassar is averaging .438 from the floor, hitting 124 of its 283 shots this year and has sunk 32-of-94 from the 3-point arc for a season .340 average. The Brewers' passing has been improving game-by-game with a current average of 10.2 dishes a showing.

A Look at the Camels
The Camels sunk Coast Guard 77-65 on Sunday. Matt Vades led Conn. College with 19 points while Zuri Pavlin had 18 rebounds and added 10 ticks to the Camel side of the scoreboard. 39 of Conn.'s 77 points came from beyond the arc with three Camels hitting 12 points apiece from 3-point land. Vades, Bo McKinley and Mason Lopez all drained four 3-pointers each.

Connecticut is averaging 67.6 points per game with .412 from the field and .348 from the 3-point line. The Camels are averaging more turnovers a game than Vassar with 16.7 mistakes a contest.

Against Connecticut All-Time
These two teams haven't seen each other since November 27, 2005 with the Camels coming out on top with a home 77-62 win. The only other time the Brewers have faced Conn. is back on December 3, 1993. Connecticut won 94-68 at the Connecticut College Tournament.

"Lowering Your Scoring Average" Is Our Middle Name
The Brewers lead the Liberty League in scoring defense, allowing only 64.0 points a game for a total of 320 points. Vassar's opponents have also only hit .359 from the floor this season, a League best.

The Brewers are second in the Liberty League with a free throw percentage of .700, making 77-of-110 attempts. Vassar's opponents have fouled 104 times while the Brewers show poise with only 92 this season.

Double Up Snyder
Snyder is second in the Liberty League behind Hobart College's Richie Bonney in rebounds per game with 9.2. Bonney averages 10.7. Snyder pulls down 4.2 offensive boards a game, leading the League.

Walk The Line Mrlik
Johnny Mrlik (San Francisco, CA/St. Ignatius College Preparatory) is second in the Liberty League with a .920 free throw shooting percentage. He has drained 23-of-25 and is behind Union College's Keith Callies who has hit 15-of-16 for an average of .938.

The Brewers will enjoy a 20-day holiday break before traveling to Hartford, CT for the Trinity College Tournament on Monday, December 30 at 7:00 pm against Wentworth Institute of Technology. The winner of that game will take on the winner of Trinity and University of Maine at Fort Kent on Tuesday, December 31 at noon.
