ANNADALE-ON-HUDSON, NY (January 8, 2013) – The Vassar College men's basketball team looked for revenge tonight against Bard College after dropping both games last season, but fell short in a 47-43 loss to start the Liberty League schedule.

Vassar stayed on top for the first 18 minutes of the second half and at one point, led by 15 points. Bard, however, piled on 30 points in the second half and took the lead 43-42 off a Siondueh Burnette layup with two minutes remaining.

The Brewers fall to 4-6 (0-1 Liberty League) and will next travel to St. Lawrence University on Friday, January 11 at 8:00 pm. The Raptors move to 4-6 as well (1-2 Liberty League) and will next travel to Clarkson University on Friday for an 8:00 pm start also.

Vassar responded after Burnette's layup to tie the game 43-43 when sophomore forward Alex Snyder was fouled by Bard's Frank Stortini. Burnette, however, made another jumper on Bard's next possession, giving the hosts a 45-43 lead with less than a minute remaining. Bard's Ben Kane tacked on a pair of free throws with 30 seconds remaining making the final score 47-43.

The Brewers and Raptors exchanged baskets for the first five minutes of the game. Vassar Freshman guard Erikson Wasyl hit a three pointer to tie the game 8-8 and start a 15-0, lead-holding run making it 23-8 before Burnette hit a pair of free throws with six minutes remaining until halftime.

Vassar held a steady eight-point lead going into the half and held a commanding lead throughout the second half.

Burnette had a game-high 17 points. Junior forward Evan Carberry led the Brewers with 12 points and a perfect three-for-three from behind the 3-point arc. Snyder had 10 rebounds leading both Vassar and Bard.
