Women's Basketball Hosts Bard In League Play On Tuesday

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (January 28, 2013) – The Vassar College women's basketball team will look to rebound from a Saturday Liberty League loss against William Smith, as the Brewers host Bard College on Tuesday, January 29 at the Athletics & Fitness Center.

Vassar Women's Notes: William Smith used a balanced offensive attack and timely outside shooting to defeat the Vassar College women's basketball team (13-4, 5-3), 67-59, in Liberty League action on Saturday afternoon at Bristol Gym. Sophomore forward Colleen O'Connell led the Brewers with 16 points on 7 of 15 shooting from the field. Junior forward Hannah Senftleber and freshman guard Caitlin Drakeley both tallied 11 points.

In the January 24 NCAA Statistics, Matsuoka ranks 50th in the nation in scoring, 24th in assists, 17th in field goal percentage, second in 3-point shooting percentage and ninth in assist to turnover ratio.

Liberty League Numbers: Junior guard Cydni Matsuoka ranks third in the Liberty League in scoring (17.4 ppg), and first in field goal percentage (58 percent) and 3-point field goal percentage (48 percent). O'Connell ranks sixth in rebounding (7.6 per game).
As a team, Vassar leads the Liberty League in scoring (67.7 ppg), field goal percentage (.42) and rebounding (42.5 per game).

Bard College Notes: The Raptors (7-12, 1-9) are coming off a 75-50 loss to Rochester Institute of Technology in Liberty League play on Saturday. In the contest, freshman sensation Tytravia Riley had 19 points and 17 rebounds. The Raptors will be looking to snap a six-game losing streak. Bard's last victory came against Clarkson on January 11, 52-46, and was the program's first in league play.

Riley entered the RIT game as the Division III national leader in rebounds per game, averaging 15.9. She has been the Liberty League Rookie of the Week twice this season.

Next Up: After tonight's game, Bard will host St. Lawrence on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Clarkson on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Coaches: Vassar is coached by Candice Brown, who is in her fourth season. Brown has led the Brewers to back-to-back Liberty League Championships and appearances in the NCAA Division III Championships. She was the 2010-11 Liberty League Coach of the Year.

Bard is coached by Sarah Lombard, a 2008 SUNY Oswego graduate who is in her third season.
