Box Score

GENEVA, NY (January 26, 2013) – The Vassar College men's basketball team outscored Liberty League No. 1 Hobart College in a strong second half comeback  but could not make up for the huge first half deficit as the Brewers fell 76-59 in Bristol Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

Freshman guard Erikson Wasyl led the short-handed Brewers, tying his career high 16 points as he went 4-6 from beyond the 3-point arc. The Brewers were without top scorers junior forward John Donnelly, senior guard Jon Herzog and sophomore forward Alex Snyder. Sophomore forward Luka Ladan and junior forward Lucas Wager's inside presence were also taken out of the Brewer game plan.

The loss makes the Brewers 5-12 and 1-7 in the Liberty League as they will next host Bard College on Tuesday, January 29 at 8:00 pm. The Statesmen move to 11-6 and 7-1 in the Liberty League and will next host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Friday, February 1 at 8:00 pm.

Hobart jumped out to an early lead with a 20-4 run in the first half, making the thought of a Brewer comeback seem unattainable as the Statesmen finished the first half up 41-16. Vassar, however, fought back in the second half at 14:54 when sophomore guard Curtis Smith hit a jumper, making the score 47-24 in favor of Hobart to start a 27-18 run for the next six minutes, making the score 59-41.

Hobart's offense rebuilt their lead to 27 points at 4:31, 70-43, with a fast break layup from Michael LaValle. The Brewers went down fighting with another run that cut the Statesmen lead down to 15 points as time expired.
