Vassar Men's Notes: The Brewers are ranked No. 11 in the national AVCA pre-season poll. Playing the most ambitious schedule in school history this season, the Brewers will rely on the return of six starters to improve on last year's 19-11 record. This Saturday they will face Stevenson University and No. 3 ranked Juniata College. Stevenson University starts their season this Saturday against Elmira College. Juniata College started its season 2-0 last weekend. The Brewers return five seniors and add six new freshmen to round out their 2013 roster. 

Stats: Christian La Du, the 2012 UVC Libero of the Year, returns to lead the defense for the Brewers. The offense is again in the capable hands of senior John Konow, an Honorable Mention United Volleyball Conference selection last season. At middle, Matt Elgin returns for his final season after being named AVCA Second Team All-American and UVC First Team selection in 2012. Elgin led the Brewers in kills per set (2.99), and senior Charlie Caldwell led the team in total kills (251).

Next Up: After Saturday's matches, the Brewers will travel to Hoboken, NJ to play Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday, January 30 at 7:00 p.m.

Stevenson Notes: The Mustangs start their 2013 this Saturday against Elmira and Vassar at
Juniata. Stevenson (20-13), who won the 2011 ECAC South Championship, concluded its 2012 season with its third postseason appearance and third 20-win season in the last four years.

Juniata Notes (2-0): The Eagles have started their season on a two-game winning streak, having defeated Penn State-Altoona (3-0) and Lancaster Bible (3-1). Juniata ended its 2012 season at 28-11 in the ECAC South Region Tournament championship match in a 2-3 loss to Medaille.

Next Up: After this weekend, Juniata plays at Springfield on February 1. Stevenson next plays on February 9 at the CVC crossover at Thiel.  

Coaches: Vassar is coached by Robert Wolter, who is in his 2nd season.

Juniata is coached by Kevin Moore, in his 3rd season.
