POTSDAM, NY (January 12, 2013) – The Vassar College men's basketball team fought back from a 42-27 halftime deficit but fell short in their 75-67 loss to Clarkson University Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

Clarkson's Marques Charlton and Jerry Coleman combined for 52 points while Vassar's junior forward John Donnelly and sophomore guard Curtis Smith combined for 37 points. Charlton had the game-high 32 points and Coleman added 20 for the Golden Knights. Donnelly compiled 20 points of his own and Smith scored 17 points for the Brewers.

The Brewers drop to 5-7 and 1-2 in the Liberty League. They will next host Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on Tuesday, January 15 at 8:00 pm. The Knights advance to 10-3 and 2-2 in League play. They will next host St. Lawrence University on Tuesday, January 15 at 8:00 pm as well.

Coleman hit a 3-pointer with just under ten minutes remaining in the first half to start the 19-8 run that lasted for eight minutes and put the Knights up 40-25.

Smith hit a jumper with 16 minutes remaining in the second half beginning an 8-2 run, bringing the Brewers within four points of tying the game, 46-42. A Clarkson ten-point run followed before sophomore forward Luka Ladan and Donnelly composed a series of layups, a jumper from junior forward Evan Carberry and a Donnelly free throw bringing Vassar within three points, 56-53 with over five minutes to go.

Vassar and Clarkson stayed near-even in terms of offense as each side until the Knights built their lead to seven points with 43 seconds on the clock off a pair of free throws from Dylan Hodownes. The free throws put Clarkson up 71-64.

Junior guard Sam Rappaport hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to four, 71-67 but a pair of fouls gave Clarkson the go-ahead to pull away with the 75-67 win.

The Brewers pulled down 18 offensive rebounds but only manage to score 14 points off the second chance opportunities.
