Box Score

CANTON, NY (January 11, 2013) – Sophomore guard Andrew Adkins hit a jumper with 1.7 seconds remaining to take the Vassar College men's basketball team's first lead of the game as the Brewers went on to defeat Liberty League opponent St. Lawrence University 48-47 Friday evening at the Burkman Gymnasium.

After being down 27-17 at halftime, the Brewer's offense exploded and scored 31 points while the defense kept the Saints' scoring to 20 second half points. Sophomore guard Curtis Smith scored a season and career-high 13 points to lead the Brewer offense.

The Brewers, now 5-6 (1-1), will next travel for more League action at Clarkson University tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 pm. The Saints, now 3-8 (1-1), will next host Bard College tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 pm in League play as well.

St. Lawrence got out to a 10-2 start in the first half, securing their lead by eight. The Saints held that pace by not allowing Vassar to come within six points of them for the remainder of the first half and at one point, being ahead by 11 points.

The pace lasted until junior center Lucas Wager drove to the basket for a layup after the first four minutes of the second half had expired, making the score a five-point lead for St. Lawrence 30-25.

Vassar didn't close the point gap on the lead any further until sophomore forward Alex Snyder hit a layup, making the score 42-38 still in favor of the Saints with over five minutes remaining in the game.

Vassar went on an 8-5 run following Snyder's basket. The run brought the score within one point, 47-46 after sophomore forward Luka Ladan made a layup under two minutes to play. After St. Lawrence's Kyle Miller missed a 3-pointer on the next possession and a pair of turnovers from both sides, Snyder skipped the ball to Adkins from the baseline for the game-winning jumper.

St. Lawrence were led by the offensive efforts of Janpeter Brase and Miller. Brase scored 14 points and Miller hit for 13 points. Payton Stahler had the game-high in rebounds with eight.
