SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (April 1, 2012) – The Vassar College baseball team traded games on Sunday  to split its four-game series with Skidmore College, winning the first game of today's twinbill with a four-run rally powered by a Brett Zaziski three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning.

After Skidmore tied the game at 4-4 with a three-run sixth to send the game beyond the scheduled seven innings, junior Zander Mrlik hurled two scoreless innings in relief to earn the win. In game two, Vassar took a 7-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh but Skidmore tied the game and won it with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Max Martins earned the win with four scoreless innings of work, allowing only two hits.

The Brewers (5-10, 3-5 Liberty) face Mount St. Mary on the road on Wednesday, April 4, at 4:00 pm. The Thoroughbreds (12-4, 6-2 Liberty) travel to Southern Vermont College for a 4:00 game on Wednesday.

After a quiet seventh and eighth inning in game one, junior A.J. Kim led off the ninth with a single. Senior Scott Allen singled to third and Liam Lee reached base on an error to load the bases. Freshman Kyle Casey brought Kim home with a sacrifice fly, chasing Skidmore's Nick Barra from the game. With two runners on, Zaziski put Vassar up 8-4 with a three-run jack to right center off Andrew Bannon, the Liberty League's ERA leader entering the weekend.

Mrlik shut the door in the ninth with outs on two flys and a walked runner caught stealing. Barra (0-1) earned the loss.
In game two, Vassar led 7-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth but Skidmore closed the gap with a five-run fourth on five hits.

With Vassar ahead 7-5 going into the bottom of the seventh, two hit batters and a wild pitch put runners on second and third for Skidmore with no outs. Skidmore tied the game with sacrifice flys by Mike Panozzi and Matty Tatkow.

In the bottom of the eighth, Zack Rudman singled to center and advanced to second on a walk. Jeff Spindel pinch ran for Rudman and scored the winning run on a walk-off single to the gap by Geoff Green.
