POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (March 24, 2012) -- The Vassar College baseball team fell victim to a pair of dominant pitching performances as St. Lawrence University swept the second doubleheader of the series on Saturday at Prentiss Baseball Field.
The Saints took game one 11-2 behind a six-inning, two-run, two-hit outing by Joe Riley (2-1). Andrew Schreyrack (2-0) led the Saints to a 7-1 win in game two, hurling a one-run, seven-hit complete game.
The Brewers (2-8) play SUNY Old Westbury on the road this Wednesday, March 28, at 6:00 pm. The Saints (9-3) hit the road with a four-game Liberty League series against University of Rochester this Saturday and Sunday, March 31-April 1.
Vassar scored first in game one as Casey reached base with a clean bunt down the third baseline and
Dan McCormack drove him in with a rope to right-center for a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
The lead was short-lived as the Saints plated three runs in the bottom of the frame to go ahead 3-1, benefiting from a pair of Vassar fielding errors. St. Lawrence extended the lead to 6-1 with three runs in the bottom of the fifth as Matt Deluca lined a two-RBI single to right and then scored on a triple to center by Matt D'Auteuil.
St. Lawrence put the game away with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for an 11-2 lead. The Saints loaded the bases with three singles and then scored two runs on walks and one run on a balk. With runners on second and third, Robert Carman blasted a double off the wall to score Paul Piatelli and Jeff Scott.
Lovizio earned the loss for Vassar in game one with nine runs on 12 hits in five innings.
In the second game, Vassar took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Zaziski doubled with two outs and Garfinkel brought him home with a single.
In the bottom of the frame, Jeff Kott put the Saints ahead 2-1 with a two-RBI double to the gap. St. Lawrence scattered five runs over the next seven innings, highlighted by a solo homer in the fourth inning by Robert Carman. Kott went 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the second game.
Carter Franz, who went 8-for-9 with four walks yesterday, continued his tear for Saints with a 5-for-6 outing with three runs, one double, and two walks in the twinbill.

Lawrence Flicker earned the loss for Vassar, allowing six runs on 12 hits in seven innings.
