Women's Basketball To Host Berkeley On Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (December 7, 2012) – The Vassar College women's basketball team will play its last home game of the semester and look to remain unbeaten when the Brewers host Berkeley (N.Y.) College on Saturday, December 8 at 5:00 p.m.

Vassar Notes: Junior guard Cydni Matsuoka scored 13 first half points on a perfect shooting exhibition and the Vassar College women's basketball team rolled to a 35-20 intermission lead en route to a convincing 64-47 win over Drew University on Monday night.

In the first NCAA statistical release of the season (as of 12/2/12), Matsuoka ranked 22nd in the nation in scoring (21.0 ppg). Her 3-point field goal percentage (70 percent) was 3rd best in the country and her 3.5 made 3-pointers per game ranked 8th. Matsuoka's field goal percentage (63.5) was 7th best in the nation. For her efforts, Matsuoka earned Liberty League Honor Roll honors on Monday. It was the 14th time in her career she has been honored by the league. In the same NCAA poll, junior forward Hannah Senftleber ranked 20th in the nation in free throw percentage (92.9).

Vassar Team 2012-13 National Rankings:  Of the 450 Division III teams, Vassar has some significant rankings. The Brewers rank 7th in free throw percentage, 18th in field goal percentage, 36th in 3-point field goal percentage and 43rd in scoring offense.

Next Up: The Brewers will be off until December 29 when they resume action at the Montclair University Holiday Classic against Widener on December 29 at 8:00 p.m.

Berkeley Notes: Berkeley successfully defended its Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament trophy by defeating The College of New Rochelle, 56-41, last Sunday. The Knights were led by junior forward Milan Germany who was named Tournament MVP. In two games, Germany scored 26 points and grabbed 18 rebounds. Senior guard Aiyesha Brown had 34 points in the two games to earn All-Tournament honors.

Next Up: After tonight's game, the Knights will face The College of New Rochelle for a second time on Monday at 7:00 p.m. 

Coaches: Vassar is coached by Candice Brown, who is in her 4th season. Brown has led the Brewers to back-to-back Liberty League Championships and appearances in the NCAA Division III Championships. She was the 2010-11 Liberty League Coach of the Year.

Berkeley is coached by Sharod Tomlinson.
