POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (December 26, 2012) – The end of the year marks the time for Holiday Hoops. The Vassar College women's basketball team will put its undefeated (6-0) record on the line at Montclair State University Holiday Tournament on Saturday, December 29 at 8:00 p.m. against Widener University.

Vassar Women's Notes: The Brewers haven't played since December 8, defeating Berkeley (NY) College, 72-55.  In that contest, the Brewers were led by a career high 16 points from sophomore guard Nyah Berg. A short-handed Berkeley team kept itself in the game, particularly in the first half, and trailed 32-25 at intermission.  The Brewers took advantage of Berkeley having just one bench player at its disposal. The Vassar reserves scored 17 of 40-second half points to help secure the victory in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Super Cydni: Junior guard Cydni Matsuoka earned Liberty League Honor Roll recognition two weeks. It was the third time this season and 12th time in her career that Matsuoka was cited for her play by the league.  As of her last game and the NCAA Division III Statistical report of December 9, Matsuoka ranked 22nd in the country in scoring (20.2 ppg), 18th in field goal percentage (58.7),  7th in 3-point field goal percentage (55.9) and 9th in 3-pointers made per game (3.17).  Those numbers are also lead the Liberty League.

Widener University Notes: The Pride (8-2) are coming off a 98-43 victory over Rowan on December 5. Widener senior guard Kate Dellinger became the ninth player in school history to reach 1,000 career points in her team's 106-71 Commonwealth Conference victory at Arcadia in Glenside, PA. Widener has three double figures scorers, led by junior gurad Jennifer Epee (13.7 ppg), Dellinger (11.8 ppg) and senior guard Lil Carney (10.3 ppg). Dellinger leads in rebounding (7.8 rpg) and Carney in assists 5.1 apg).

Next Up: After Sunday's game, Widener will host Lycoming on Saturday, January 5 at 1:00 p.m.

Coaches: Vassar is coached by Candice Brown, who is in her 4th season. Brown has led the Brewers to back-to-back Liberty League Championships and appearances in the NCAA Division III Championships. She was the 2010-11 Liberty League Coach of the Year.

Widener is coached by Alisa Kinter, in her ninth season. She is the second winningest coach in program history.

Series Record: Montclair leads the series 3-0. It began in the 1997 season with Montclair winning 60-49 and continued in 1998 (61-54) and 1999 (69-52).

Montclair State Notes: Montclair State will enter its own tournament boasting a perfect 11-0 record, the best start in nine seasons. The Red Hawks, nationally ranked 22nd in the D3hops.com poll, defeatied Mount St. Mary 53-37 on December 18. Four Montclair players are double figures scorers, led by Melissa Tobie (15.7 ppg), Taylor Jeffers (11.3 ppg), Janitza Acquino (10.2 ppg) and Shalette Brown (10.1 ppg). Montclair State is coached by Karin Harvey in her sixth season with the Red Hawks.
