Men's Hoops Falls to New Paltz In Tough, Physical Contest, 74-58

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 27, 2012) – The Vassar college men's basketball team fell to SUNY New Paltz 74-58 Tuesday night at the Athletics and Fitness Center.

Vassar had a better night from the floor with a 47.8 shooting percentage. New Paltz only shot a 43.3 percentage on the night.

The Brewers (2-2) will next travel back to New York City to play The City College of New York on Sunday, December 2 for a 1:00 pm start. The Hawks (2-2) will next travel to play SUNY Fredonia in their first SUNYAC contest of the 2012-13 schedule on Friday, November 30 at 8:00 pm.

New Paltz got the first points of the game off of a pair of free throws from freshman forward Deveino McRae. McRae hit another free throw less than one minute later to put the Hawks up 3-0 before Vassar sophomore guard Seth Bynum could put the Brewers on the board with a layup. Bynum scored the first four points of the game for the Brewers.

Junior center Lucas Wager came in off the bench in a big way near the end of the first half. He hit two free throws accompanied by two layups. Wager finished the game with eight points.

Sophomore forward Alex Snyder hit his fourth straight double-double after pulling down ten rebounds and scoring ten points. Snyder and Curtis Smith led the Brewers with ten points each.

New Paltz's Matt Devine a game-high 19 points. Shereef Taylor had 12 and Andrew Joseph had ten.

Vassar had 22 personal fouls, 20 turnovers and seven steals. New Paltz tallied 20 personal fouls, 14 turnovers and 13 steals in the physical game. Vassar blocked three of the Hawks' shots while New Paltz managed to block one.

The Brewers scored 34 of their points from inside the paint and 28 of their total from their bench. New Paltz only scored 28 from the paint and 18 from their bench.
