BROOKLYN, NY (November 20, 2012) – The Vassar College men's basketball team fought a hard battle on the road but fell to St. Joseph's-Brooklyn 63-56 Tuesday night.
Sophomore forward
Alex Snyder earned his third double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
The Brewers (2-1) will next host SUNY New Paltz next Tuesday at 7:00 pm. The Bears (2-1) will next travel for a two-day tournament in Washington, D.C. for the Gallaudet Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday and Saturday. St. Joseph's will play Valley Forge on Friday and either Salisbury or Gallaudet on Saturday.
Junior forward
Evan Carberry got his first double-double of the year with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Senior guard
Jon Herzog hit a three-pointer just three seconds into the game. This, however, was one of two moments when they would lead.
Vassar was down by as much as 11 points at one juncture but held firm and tied the game at 44-44 off a free throw from junior forward
John Donnelly with almost ten minutes remaining in the second half. Sophomore
Curtis Smith hit a jumper just 40 seconds later to take the lead for a second time.
Donnelly hit a jumper in the 14th minute of the second half to tie the game 50-50.
Vassar was plagued by turnovers throughout the game with 24 and managed only five steals. The Brewers did show that they had the better of the two benches. Vassar's bench scored 18 points while St. Joseph's only hit ten points.
The Bears went 12-21 from the line and 24-56 from the field. St. Joseph's also added three three-pointers. Vassar went 6-10 from the line, 23-61 on field goals and hit four three pointers.
St. Joseph's David Louison had the game-high score with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Jan Rogowski had 14 points.
