With 3:21 left in the game, Donnelly was fouled while driving to the hoop, providing the Brewers with a big one-and-one opportunity. He sunk both free throws to put Vassar up 63-61, shifting the game's momentum in Vassar's favor.
With the game tied at 65-65, Hunter guard Lorenzo Brown was fouled and went to the free throw line with 21 seconds left. Vassar held a slight defensive edge in an even and fast-paced first half, out-rebounding Hunter 14-8 as well as holding an advantage in steals by four. Vassar's defensive performance paid off, as the team managed to convert several defensive boards into quick baskets on the other end.
The Brewers rounded out the first half on a 10-2 scoring run to put some daylight between the two teams. The run saw a series of clutch layups from sophomore forward
Alex Snyder, whose team-leading 16 rebounds and 13 points earned him his second double-double in as many games.
A 28-13 run from Hunter in the beginning of the second half closed the gap and gave the Hawks a slight lead. However, explosive second-half performances from Herzog and Donnelly combined to keep the Brewers in the game. Herzog scored 12 of his team-leading 16 points in the second half to complement Donnelly's 14 points.
Hunter forward Matthew Hunter had a team-high 17 points for the Hawks in the loss.
