POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 12, 2012) – The Vassar College women's soccer team fought their way to a 1-1 draw against the University of Rochester on a bright, warm Saturday at Gordon Field. The game was the program's annual Senior Day, and marked the final home game of the season for the Brewers.

Sophomore forward Chloe Wheeler scored the only goal of the game for Vassar, and also had nine of the team's 31 shots. The goal was Wheeler's ninth of the season.

The Brewers, now 9-7-1, will travel to Schenectady, NY to face Union College on Saturday, October 27 at 2:00 pm. The Rochester Yellowjackets, now 4-12-2, will face Washington University in St. Louis at home on Friday, October 26 at 5:00 pm.

The Brewers struck first in the 21st minute, when Wheeler received a pass at the top of the box, moved clear of the defense, quickly turned and fired a hard shot into the bottom right corner of the net.

Rochester narrowly missed tying the game in the 61st minute, when a hard shot from forward Grace Van Der Ven forced a tough save from senior goalkeeper Ali Higgins.

The Brewers missed a chance to double their lead just four minutes later, when freshman forward Kamaria Coley sent a through ball past the defense to Wheeler, who sent a high shot from a tough angle that clipped the crossbar to go out of play.

With six minutes left to play, Rochester midfielder Ashley Hunt played a through ball from the top of the box to senior defender Kristina Diaz, who sent an open shot from 12 yards out into the right side of the net to tie the game and send it into overtime.

The best chance of the overtime period for the Brewers came with just three minutes left to play, when Coley received a through ball deep in the Rochester area, made a run towards the box and sent a low shot at the far corner that was tipped wide by Rochester keeper Bridget Lang. Neither team could find a breakthrough and the game ended in a draw.

Higgins had seven saves in her final game for the Brewers, while Lang had 10 saves.
