POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (September 14, 2011) -- The Vassar College women's soccer team outshot Stevens Institute of Technology 21-13 in regulation but fell victim to a golden goal nine minutes into the first overtime period for a 2-1 loss on Wednesday evening at Gordon Field.

Vassar allowed a goal in the opening minute, tied the game later in the first half, and surrendered the golden goal to Bridgette Barden of Stevens in overtime.

The Brewers (2-3) face New York University on the road this Friday, September 16, at 1:00 p.m. The Ducks (3-2-1) next play Fairleigh-Dickinson-Florham on the road on Friday at 4:00 p.m.

Nearing the final minute of the first overtime, Stevens' Barden found space in the middle of the box and snuck a one-timer underneath a diving keeper on a perfectly-timed pass from Ann Heine across the mouth of the goal from the right end line to clinch the victory for Stevens.

In a competitive and physical first half, Vassar evened the score in the 36th minute as senior Alex Grant hit a cross over a crowd that found freshman Kelsey Domb for a leaping volley into the open goal just past a supporting defender.

The Ducks hit paydirt on the first possession of the game as junior Nicole Serino scored 45 seconds into the contest to give Stevens an immediate 1-0 lead. After a corner kick by Kathleen Shuckers, the ball bounced around in the box and Serino put a solid right foot on the loose ball to blast a goal into the upper left corner.

Vassar kept the ball in Stevens' end for much of the second half with a 9-4 edge in shots and 4-1 edge in corners. Vassar's last promising scoring opportunity came in the 85th minute as Kylie Ladenberger made a move to her right to shake off a couple defenders at the top of the box and then ripped a shot off the crossbar.

Earlier in the half in the 65th minute, Lindsay Stoll of Stevens nailed a free kick from 35-yards out off the crossbar.

Kaitlin McClymont (3-1) made six saves to earn the win for Stevens. Vassar's Ali Higgins (2-3) made four saves in the loss.

Since 2005, Vassar is now 2-4 against Stevens with today's game marking the first time the visiting team has won during that span.
