POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 8, 2011) -- The Vassar College baseball team ended the 2011 season with a pair of one-run losses to Union on Sunday at Prentiss Field.

The Brewers end the season 14-20 overall with a 7-14 Liberty League record, the first season with over ten wins since 2005. This talented Vassar team was plagued by a 4-11 record in one-run games this season. The Dutchmen are 14-19 with a 10-14 league record.

In game one, Vassar erupted for five runs in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead. With the bases loaded, Joe Bubar stroked a two-run double to right center to even the score at 2-2. Brett Zaziski was hit by a pitch to bring in a run. Dave Robbins singled to left for two more.

In the top of the seventh, Vassar starter John MacGregor loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batter and was relieved by Zachary Prudoff. Union's David Peretti grounded through the left side to score two runs and bring the Dutchmen within one run at 5-4. Peter Mugford delivered the knockout blow with a two-run single up the middle to put Union ahead 6-5. In the bottom of the frame, Union's Quinn Rhoda surrendered a monstrous double to the warning track by Sal Costanzo but retired the next three to earn his fifth save of the season.

Matt Rogers earned the win for Union with no runs and two hits in 1.1 innings pitched. Prudoff is tabbed the loss with one run on two hits in one inning of relief.

After trailing 2-1 since the third inning of the second game, the Brewers tied it up at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth as Liam Lee singled, stole second, and scored on an error by the second baseman.

Union regained the lead at 3-2 in the top of the 12th inning as Joshua Rothenberg drove in John Moore with a double to leftfield. Rhoda retired the side in the bottom of the frame to cap a 4.1 inning, no-run, two-hit effort to earn the win.

Vassar starter Lawrence Flicker lasted six innings with two runs on seven hits. Union starter Brendan McLaughlin went 7.2 innings with two runs on six hits with four hitless innings.

Zaziski went 2-for-3 with an RBI, a double, and a walk. He set Vassar's single-season record with a .496 on-base percentage, breaking Kristaps Aldins' 2005 record of .488. With 26 walks, he tied Tim Reinhart (2001) for the third best single-season mark. Lee moved into second on the single-season walk list with his 27 walks this year.

Vassar honored seniors Bubar, Joe Castilla, Devin Luongo, Mike Plude, and David Ringold.
