Box Score

MADISON, NJ (May 1, 2011) -- The Vassar College baseball team fell behind early and couldn't recoup the deficit in a 6-4 loss to the Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Devils in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.

Although FDU struck early to hand Scott Allen the loss with six runs on seven hits in three innings, Vassar freshman Joe Lovizio was dominant in five innings of relief with three hits and six strikeouts. FDU senior pitcher Mike Gordon made his first career start and came away with the victory, going 2.1 innings while allowing one run on three hits. FDU junior pitcher Chris Laudati earned the save, tossing a perfect ninth inning.

The Brewers (12-17) next host Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday, May 3, at 4:00 p.m. at Prentiss Baseball Field. The Devils (20-12) return to action on May 4, 2011, at Western Connecticut at 4:00 pm.

Vassar got on the board in the first with an RBI single by Brett Zaziski, but the Devils came back with three runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI single from senior outfielder Matt Oliveto and bases loaded walks by junior first baseman Ryan Fandel and senior catcher Joe Meglio.

FDU then made it 6-1 in the bottom of the third with a run by Fandel on a double play, an RBI single from junior shortstop Steve Seminerio and a Vassar error.

The Brewers cut the lead to 6-3 in the fifth with a two-RBI single by Zaziski and 6-4 in the seventh with a bases loaded walk before the FDU bullpen locked things down in the eighth and ninth innings to end the game.

Zaziski continued his hot hitting for Vassar, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two walks.

FDU's Seminerio went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
